Hi @semmo

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 isn’t printing in color despite having installed new, original cartridges, it could be due to several reasons. Below are some troubleshooting steps to help you identify and fix the issue:

1. Check Printer Settings

Sometimes, the issue may be due to the settings in the print dialog box.

  • Ensure Color Printing is Enabled:
    • Before printing, check your printer settings in the Print dialog box. Ensure that "Color" is selected, not "Black and White" or "Grayscale".
    • Go to File > Print, select your printer, and click on Properties or Preferences. Make sure Color is selected.

2. Verify Cartridges Are Properly Installed

Make sure that the cartridges are properly installed and are recognized by the printer:

  • Check the cartridges to ensure they are seated properly in their respective slots.
  • Ensure the protective tape has been removed from the cartridges.
  • If the cartridges are new, sometimes the printer may take a few minutes to recognize them.

3. Clean the Printhead

Clogged printheads can cause issues with color printing. If the printheads are clogged, it might result in only black ink being used, with no color printing.

To clean the printhead:

Go to the Printer's Control Panel:

  • Tap on the Setup icon (the gear symbol).
  • Select Tools or Maintenance.
  • Choose Clean Printhead or Clean Cartridges. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If the printhead cleaning doesn’t help, you can also clean it manually:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer to access the cartridges and printhead area.
  • Gently clean the printhead using a lint-free cloth or paper towel soaked in distilled water or rubbing alcohol.
  • Let it dry for about 10-15 minutes and then try printing again.

4. Check the Ink Levels

Even though you installed new cartridges, there might be an issue with ink detection.

  • Check Ink Levels: You can check the ink levels directly on the printer's control panel or through the HP Smart App or HP Printer Software on your computer.
  • If the levels are still low for any color, you might need to replace a faulty cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
