To begin, I am using Windows 11 operating system on my HP laptop. I have an HP Deskjet 2752 printer that has worked well for about two years. Now it decides it's time to continually print out test pages. One after the other after the other and so on until it runs out of paper. Then it tells me it's out of paper. Duh.

I have tried the trick of turning it off by removing the power cord, and holding the power button down for 15 seconds and actually, I did it longer.  Then the instructions said to plug it back in. I had not put any sort of cartridges into the printer because they were still good. There should be no realigning of anything. I have taken the cartridges out and put them back in again to make sure. Still printing test pages, one after the other.

I'm out of ideas. I have searched and searched for the setting to turn this possessed printer off, to no avail. My last resort is to pick it up and take it to a field where I will beat it into submission.

Any suggestions before the abuse of a printer happens?

Hi @fedup0188 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Deskjet 2752 printer. Let's try to resolve the problem before any drastic measures are needed.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the constant printing issue:

1. Cancel Print Jobs

  • Open the Print Queue: On your laptop, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners. Select your HP DeskJet 2752 and click Open Queue.
  • If there are any stuck print jobs, try clearing them. Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the queue and cause the printer to continuously print test pages.

2. Reset the Printer's Printing System

You’ve already tried a basic reset, but let’s go a bit further.

  • Perform a Reset: With the printer powered off, unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 2 minutes, and then plug it back in while holding the power button for another 15-30 seconds. This should reset the printer’s internal system.

3. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Uninstall/Reinstall Printer Driver: There might be a software issue causing the printer to loop print. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners and remove the printer. Afterward, reinstall it by either downloading the latest drivers from the HP website or using the automatic setup with HP Smart.

4. Check Printer Settings for Test Print Option

  • Sometimes printers are set to print test pages automatically after being powered on. In HP Smart or the HP Printer Assistant software, check the settings to ensure there isn't an option selected to print test pages every time the printer turns on. You may need to disable any "print test page" or "align printer" settings.

5. Printer Firmware Update

  • Check if there’s a firmware update for your printer. Go to the HP website and enter your printer model to check if there’s a newer firmware version available that might fix the issue.

6. Check for Paper or Sensor Issues

  • If the printer thinks it's out of paper or there’s a miscommunication with the paper sensor, it might keep printing test pages. Make sure there’s no paper jam, and that the paper tray is inserted properly.

7. Factory Reset the Printer

If none of the above solutions work, performing a full factory reset might resolve the issue. To do this:

  • Navigate to your printer's Control Panel or use the HP Smart app.
  • Look for an option to Restore Defaults or Reset All Settings. This will erase all settings, and you’ll need to reconfigure the printer as if it were new.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Um, yeah. Nada. Time to play  Frisbee i do believe. Reset it to factory settings as a last resort ... now every light on the printer is flashing and it's not printing. I have gone through the set up process and nothing. Now it sits in the office like a large paperweight.
