My printer complained of low ink for one color and showed that the other inks were not depleted. So I replaced that one color cartridge with a genuine HP cartridge. Immediately (i.e., before any further printing), the printer complained of a second color being depleted and would not print. So I was forced to replace the second cartridge. Now, before I have printed a single page, the printer says the third color is depleted and will not let me print. Does this mean any time a single color ink is depleted I would have to replace all of them! That is conscious programmed fraud.

I cannot state with any certainty but in most cases, colors tend to run out at around the same time. The problem is once you replace one cartridge the printer typically goes through a maintenance cycle which does consume some ink and this can deplete another cartridge that was low but showing as empty before the first replacement..
I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.

Seen this too many times when swapping working cartridges in and out because I'm printing newsletters for different organizations that I charged the cartridges to. Let me decide when the print quality has gone bad and cartridges need to be replaced. This is so blatantly a programmed self-serving firmware routine to force you to replace all cartridges whenever ink in any one is low. Can't believe there isn't already a class action suit against HP for this.
