hi

My HP Smart Tank 615 printer does not print the Cyan and Yellow colors, and intermittently printing the Magenta color. Upon my checking I observed that the ink hoses from the ink tank has a lot of air about halfway from the ink tank and the cartridge (printing heads) which possibly block the inks from flowing into the cartridges. I removed the air from the lines. but still it didn't work.

My question: Is there an HP app or printer tools/utilities that can flush the air out of the ink tubes just like in other inkjet printer manufacturers?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @sazzad615,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Unfortunately, HP Smart Tank printers, including the HP Smart Tank 615, do not have an integrated feature or tool in their software to automatically flush air out of the ink tubes. However, there are a few steps you can follow to try resolving the issue manually.

Perform a Printer Head Cleaning:

  • Use the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to initiate a printhead cleaning. This process might help to clear air bubbles and ensure proper ink flow.
  • You can access the printhead cleaning option in the HP Printer Assistant (on Windows) or HP Utility (on macOS).

Prime the Ink System (Manually):

  • Make sure the ink tanks are filled to the recommended levels.
  • Turn off the printer and gently move the printhead carriage to the center.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the ink hoses to ensure there’s no blockage or air trapped.
  • Carefully squeeze the ink bottles to prime the system if applicable (refer to the printer manual for proper handling).

Perform a Nozzle Check:

  • Print a nozzle check pattern to identify whether the ink is flowing correctly.
  • If the pattern shows gaps or missing colors, perform another cleaning cycle.

Manually Remove Air Bubbles (Advanced Step):

  • If you're comfortable, try manual priming:
    • Using a syringe with a rubber nozzle, gently draw ink through the nozzles of the printhead. Be cautious not to damage the printhead.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 2–3 minutes.
  • Reconnect the printer and perform a hard reset to ensure the system refreshes.

Note:

  • Always keep the ink tank levels above the minimum mark to prevent air from entering the lines.
  • Use the printer regularly to keep the ink flowing smoothly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
