Yellow and Cyan are not printing and I noticed that the ink tubes  have a lot of air about halfway between the ink tank and the cartridge. This is the reason why the ink does not go all the way up to the cartridge. How can I flush the air out of the tubes?

Hi @arjee0720 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand to flush the air out of the ink tubes in your HP Smart Tank 615 Wireless All-In-One printer, you can follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Guide to Remove Air from Ink Tubes

Prepare the Printer:

  • Make sure the printer is turned on and has paper loaded.
  • Ensure you have adequate ink levels in the ink tanks.

Access the Printhead:

  • Open the printer's top cover to access the printhead area. Wait until the printhead stops moving and is idle.

Check the Ink Tubes:

  • Locate the ink tubes connecting the ink tanks to the printhead. Observe where the air bubbles are in the tubes.

Prime the Ink System:

  • Use the printer’s built-in priming function if available. This can usually be done through the printer’s control panel or software.
    • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Maintenance > Ink System Maintenance > Prime the Ink System.

Manual Air Removal (if priming doesn’t work):

  • Gently Tap the Ink Tanks: Sometimes tapping the ink tanks gently can help dislodge air bubbles. Be careful not to spill any ink.
  • Manual Priming:
    • Find the priming tool or syringe that came with your printer (if provided by HP). If you don't have one, you can purchase a compatible one or contact HP support.
    • Disconnect the ink tube from the printhead carefully. Attach the priming tool or syringe to the tube.
    • Gently pull the plunger to draw the ink through the tube, removing the air bubbles. Be careful not to pull too hard, as this can damage the ink system.
    • Reconnect the tube to the printhead after removing the air bubbles.

Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle:

  • After removing the air, run a printhead cleaning cycle to ensure that the ink is flowing correctly.
    • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Settings > Maintenance > Clean Printhead.

Test Print:

  • Print a test page to check if the cyan and yellow inks are now printing correctly.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid Letting the Ink Levels Get Too Low: Regularly check and refill the ink tanks to prevent air from entering the system.
  • Use Genuine HP Ink: Ensure you are using genuine HP ink, as third-party inks may cause issues.
  • Regular Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks as recommended by HP to keep your printer in good working condition.
