Hi @Jaybyrdman,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer isn't printing cyan, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Check Ink Levels:
- First, check if the cyan ink cartridge is out of ink. You can do this through the printer’s control panel or software on your computer.
Cartridge Health:
- Ensure that the cyan ink cartridge is not expired or damaged. Replace it if necessary.
Proper Installation:
- Check that the cyan ink cartridge is properly installed. Remove it and reinstall it to ensure it's seated correctly in the printer.
Printhead Cleaning:
- Use the printer’s built-in tool to clean the printhead. This can be found in the printer's settings menu under a section like "Tools" or "Printer Maintenance".
- Here’s how you can generally access this feature:
- On the printer display, go to the “Setup” menu (gear icon).
- Select “Printer Maintenance” or similar.
- Select “Clean Printhead” or “Clean Cartridges”.
- This process can help clear any blockages in the printhead that might be preventing cyan ink from being dispensed.
Check the Printhead:
- If cleaning doesn't help, there might be an issue with the printhead itself. The printhead can sometimes become clogged or malfunction. If your printer model has a removable printhead, you can take it out and clean it manually:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Lift the carriage latch and remove the printhead.
- Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the printhead nozzles. Avoid touching the nozzles directly.
- Reinsert the printhead, secure the latch, and then run a printhead alignment from the printer’s control panel.
Paper Type and Quality:
- Ensure you are using the type of paper suitable for your printer and that the paper settings on the printer match the paper loaded.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check for updates to your printer’s firmware. An outdated firmware can sometimes cause issues with printing. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings under "Printer Maintenance" or "Tools."
Printer Driver Update:
- Ensure that your printer driver on your computer is up-to-date. Visit the HP website, find the model of your printer, and download the latest driver.
Reset the Printer:
- If none of the above solutions work, consider resetting your printer to its factory settings. This can often resolve underlying issues but will erase any settings you've customized:
- On the printer, go to the “Setup” menu.
- Navigate to “Printer Maintenance” or a similar option.
- Select “Restore” or “Reset.”
- Follow the prompts to reset the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
