Hi - I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e that I put all new printer cartridges in a few weeks ago, and all were working fine...Yesterday, I went to print something and got an alert that said, "The indicated cartridges have been blocked by the printer firmware b/c they contain  a non-HP chip."    It is saying that it is my Cyan cartridge...what I don't understand, is why they were all working and now they are not AND ALSO why is only one of them giving me this alert when all were purchased in a box together...

Thank you!

Hi @FTAW

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel when everything was working fine and suddenly one cartridge is blocked, especially after you’ve taken care to install a full set together. Thank you for sharing the details—it helps narrow down the situation.

Let’s go through steps that can help restore smooth printing.

Steps to Resolve Cartridge Blocked by Firmware

Power Reset the Printer

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the rear.
  • Disconnect it from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord back into the wall and then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on and check the display.

Remove and Reinstall the Cyan Cartridge

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Carefully remove the Cyan cartridge.
  • Inspect the chip area for dust or smudges.
  • Wipe gently with a lint-free cloth if needed.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Update Printer Firmware

  • On Windows 11, open the HP App.
  • Select your printer (OfficeJet Pro 9015e).
  • Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Firmware Update.
  • Install any available updates. This ensures the printer can properly communicate with cartridges.

Check Cartridge Authenticity

  • The message indicates the Cyan cartridge may not have the correct chip.
  • Even if purchased in a box together, sometimes one cartridge can differ.
  • Verify the packaging and cartridge label to confirm it is genuine.

If the other cartridges are working fine, the issue is isolated to the Cyan cartridge. After cleaning contacts, reseating, and updating firmware, the printer should either recognize it or confirm that replacement is needed.

Would you like me to also share how to run a print quality diagnostic page once the cartridge is recognized? It can help confirm that all colors are flowing correctly.
