Hi @Pullinthreads,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When you refill ink cartridges on your own, the printer might not recognize the new ink levels accurately. Here are a few steps you can try to address the issue.
- Reset Ink Levels (if possible): Some printers allow you to reset or acknowledge that you've refilled the cartridges. Check your printer's manual or settings menu for an option to reset ink levels.
- Check Cartridge Contacts: Ensure that the cartridge contacts (the metal strips on the cartridge and inside the printer) are clean and free from any ink residue. This can sometimes affect communication between the cartridge and the printer.
- Disable Ink Level Monitoring (if applicable): Some printers will continue to show low ink levels regardless of refilling. You might be able to disable ink level monitoring through the printer's software or control panel.
- Check Printer Settings: Ensure that your printer settings are configured to print in color if needed. Sometimes printers default to black and white mode, especially if they detect low ink levels.
- Restart Printer: Try restarting your printer after refilling the cartridges to see if it recognizes the new ink levels correctly.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes updates include fixes for ink level detection and cartridge recognition issues.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, it might be due to the printer not fully recognizing the refilled cartridges
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
