HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I got a new genuine HP 61 color printer cartridge from Walmart.  It worked for several pages, then quit - 4630 Printer says 'cartridge must be replaced'.  It's still new and under warranty!  I created a case, got a CSO #, and got an email saying a replacement would be shipped.  I replied to an email saying they had the wrong city in my address, and got an HP reply saying the city would be updated.  Then no new cartridge!  When I check the CSO  # on the Status page, it says it was cancelled!  What happened?  This has been EXTREMELY frustrating and a huge time-waster.  Can anyone help?

Hi  @Grungebob,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I  hear your concern that you have not recieved the replacement yet.

Could you kindly confirm the below  details?

  • What is the current error message displayed on the printer screen?
  • Could you kindly share the Service Order number or case number you received from HP via private message ?

Additionally ensure all protective tape has been completely removed from the cartridge.

Not sure why, but the type 61 color cartridge has started working again.  The only thing I did was pull out the paper tray and push it back in again - it may have not been in all the way and fully seated.  Why I was getting a 'cartridge must be replaced' message I don't know.

Hi @Grungebob

Thank you for the update, and I'm glad to hear that your HP 4630 is recognizing the HP 61 color cartridge again and is back to printing.

It's certainly possible that the paper tray was not fully seated, and reseating it may have helped the printer complete its internal checks correctly. Since the cartridge is now working normally, it suggests that the cartridge itself may not have been defective.

At this point, I recommend continuing to monitor the printer's performance. If the error message reappears, please let us know and share any additional details.
