Hi @grxx,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer is displaying a "Reinstall Cartridge" error with a newly installed HP 63XL black ink cartridge, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the cartridge is compatible with your printer model. The HP 63XL black cartridge is designed for the OfficeJet 3830, but confirm the packaging to rule out errors.
2. Inspect the Cartridge
- Protective Tape: Make sure you’ve removed the protective plastic tape covering the ink nozzles.
- Contacts: Inspect the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge for dirt, dust, or damage.
- Gently clean the contacts using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
- Avoid touching the nozzles with your fingers.
3. Check the Printer Cartridge Slot
- Look inside the printer’s cartridge slot for any debris or damage.
- Gently clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
4. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 2-3 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and reinstall the cartridge.
5. Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware might cause compatibility issues with new cartridges:
- Visit the HP support website to check for firmware updates for your printer.
- Follow the instructions to install the update.
6. Test Another Cartridge
- If possible, try a different HP 63XL black cartridge or a standard HP 63 cartridge to determine if the issue is with the printer or the specific cartridge.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
