Hi @JB4410
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how frustrating it must be to have a brand-new HP61 color cartridge show up as defective on your HP ENVY 5532. Since it's fresh out of the box, let's go through some steps to troubleshoot the issue.
1. Check the Cartridge Installation
- Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
- Remove the color HP 61 cartridge and check for:
- Any protective tape still on the nozzle (remove if present).
- Ink leaks or visible damage (bulging, cracks, or dried ink).
- Reinsert the cartridge securely, ensuring it clicks into place.
- Close the printer cover and try printing again.
2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the color cartridge.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge.
- Let it dry for a few minutes, then reinstall the cartridge.
3. Reset the Printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect everything and turn the printer back on.
4. Try a Different Cartridge
- If possible, test with another HP 61 color cartridge to see if the issue persists.
- If the new cartridge works, the original one may be defective.
