My DeskJet 2700 only prints in good color when I click the Photo Gloss Paper option, I am using regular paper and it is streaky, half way printed image, and lowly pigmented otherwise when on plain paper setting. It's been doing it for the past few months and I've only had this printer about not even 2 years. My ink cartridges are full + new and the instant ink, I have no signal errors to my knowledge, and don't know what to do.

@Alexnothome, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check the Paper Type and Quality Settings

The printer might be adjusting ink application differently based on the paper type selected. The "Photo Gloss Paper" setting uses more ink and might produce higher-quality prints, but you shouldn’t have to use it for regular paper.

Try adjusting the paper quality setting for regular paper. Go into your print settings, and make sure it’s set to “Normal” or “Best” (depending on your quality preference), and set the paper type to plain paper.

Clean the Print Head

Streaky printing and incomplete prints are often caused by clogged printheads. Even though your cartridges are new, ink can still clog if the printer hasn’t been used frequently or properly maintained.

Use the printer’s cleaning cycle. Do this a couple of times and then try printing again.

Check Ink Cartridges

Even if the cartridges are new, sometimes ink can dry out or clump if there is any air exposure. Ensure the ink cartridges are properly seated in their slots and that no protective tape or cover was missed.

Print a Diagnostic Page

Most HP printers allow you to print a diagnostic page or printer report. This can help identify issues with your ink or printhead alignment.

You can also check the printer status or print quality report to see if there’s an issue with the ink levels or alignment.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
