i was printing a large document and my printer stopped printing the black ink.
i replaced the black ink cartridge and it still would not print the black - even on the test page.
I tried aligning and cleaning the printheads to no avail.
Nothing seems to work.
How do I get my printer printing again.
(yes I've tried turning it off and on again)

Hi @Jerowney,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP DeskJet 2630 is not printing black even after replacing the black ink cartridge. Let’s go through a few steps to resolve this.
a. Check Cartridge Installation
Turn off the printer and remove the black cartridge.
Make sure the protective tape is fully removed and the cartridge is seated firmly in the correct slot.
Reinsert the cartridge until it clicks into place.
b. Inspect Cartridge & Contacts
Check the copper or gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer slot.
Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water to clean any dirt or residue.
Allow it to dry completely before reinserting.
c. Run Printer Diagnostics
Use the HP Smart app or the printer control panel to print a diagnostic page or test page to see if the black cartridge is detected.
d. Perform Printhead Cleaning Again
Run a deep cleaning cycle through the printer software, not just the quick clean, and try printing again.
Sometimes it takes 2–3 cleaning cycles for a new cartridge to start printing properly.
e. Check Ink Levels
Verify that the printer recognizes the black cartridge and shows sufficient ink.
If the cartridge is low or defective, it may not print.
f. Try Another Cartridge
If possible, test with a different new black cartridge to rule out a defective cartridge.
g. Printer Reset
Turn off the printer, unplug it from power for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
This can reset the printer’s internal sensors and may restore black printing.
I hope this helps.
