I have purchased three brand new genuine HP 304XL black Ink Cartridges for my HP Deskjet 2630 from two different retailers Amazon (directly from Amazon - not 3rd party reseller) and John Lewis.
The printer doesn't recognise any of these black ink cartridges. When I check the error status within HP Smart dashboard it says "Ink Cartridge Failure".
The odd thing is when I put the old black ink cartridge back in, a genuine HP 304 (non-XL) cartridge, the printer recognises this without any issue. It also has no issues recognising the colour cartridge.
I have tried to resolve the issue by:
- Following out the reboot process of the printer, unplug, wait 60 seconds, plug back in and turn on, as mentioned many times on this forum
- Factory resetting the printer
- Cleaning the copper contacts on the ink cartridges
- Turning off Cartridge protection
- Ensuring my printer region is set to United Kingdom/UK

hi,
Please make sure your printer firmware is up to date with its latest version:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/DJ2600_2021B_updated/DJ2600_2021B.dmg
Also, what is the warranty end-date listed on the ink cartridges? check if theses are not older generation by any chance, and if your printer supports a such:
