I had about half colour ink and I was printing ONLY BLACK AND WHITE. After some pages, it indicated to me that I am low on Colour ink (which is totally disgusting because I selected "Print in Greyscale [Black and White only]" while printing those pages). Why it was using COLOUR ink for BLACK AND WHITE Pages?????
- Tried to restore the printer
- tried to remove the colour cartiledge and tried using only black and white
- up to date on software and firmware

The document here describes how ink is used. Some ink is used for servicing before, during and after each print job. Even when printing black only the printhead (which has both the black and color nozzles) is waving around in the open air. Servicing is needed to prevent the nozzles from clogging.
Color ink is also used to print black if Photo paper is selected in the driver. The pigmented black ink is not compatible with Photo paper. The printer will use color ink to print even black text if photo paper is selected in the driver.
If you remove the color cartridge what is the error? The Deskjet 2700e series should allow printing with either cartridge removed if the other cartridge is valid.
I would suggest printing a test page as shown in Step Six in the document here. Does the black rectangle (below the color test patterns) print correctly?
