HP Deskjet 3520 Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Deskjet 3520 printer will not print black ink under any circumstances.  I've gone through almost 3/4 of the yellow, cyan, magenta ink in a brand new set from a color three-pack HP 564 installed at the same time as a brand new HP 564XL black running printhead cleanings, test pages, diy test docs I created in Word to see if I could get the printer to print black, all to no avail.  With the previous set of cartridges, the black quality was failing and eventually stopped so I bought all four cartridges, all new, all genuine HP, at Target.  I cleaned the ink receiver with isopropyl alcohol twice.  I've reset the printer, uninstalled/reinstalled the printer.  Nothing works.  The only thing I haven't been able to try is aligning the printhead(s), which I've seen online as a possibility with problems like mine.  Trouble is, without the ability to print black, I can't print an alignment page.  I have an OfficeJet Pro 8610 I could print an alignment page on, but that printer doesn't have the facility to print an alignment page (maybe it doesn't use them?)  Is there ANY way to get a Deskjet 3520 alignment page sent to me in .pdf form so I can try printing it to my Deskjet 3520 printer?  If not, I think I have to scrap my printer -- but will HP refund me for $80 worth of ink that's being wasted?  Is there anything else I can do?  What does anyone recommend as a suitable replacement for the Deskjet 3520, if it comes to that?  Frustrated, but thankful for any help available.

Hi @HighRoadDave,

I'd like to help!

As this is a hardware issue, I’d recommend you contact HP Phone Support in your region regarding service options for your printer.

Follow the instructions below to reach them:

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the chat or get phone number options based on your preferences.

6)Fill the web form and proceed further.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps!

Hello, Jay_G24:

Thanks for your input.  When I went to the site you recommended, I learned that HP sees my warranty as having expired in early 2015.  When I followed the Virtual Agent through various protocols i could see that there is/was a possibility that there is/was an issue with the printhead on my printer.  (Instructions were given as to how a user could remove and clean a printhead, etc.)  On my Desk3520e, the printhead doesn't have a lever to release it for service.  If this is the case, and if my unit is not under warranty, is my only option to purchase a replacement printer?  If so, can you recommend the closest/best replacement?  My key requirements are automatic duplex printing, the ability to print envelopes, relatively compact size, and I really prefer ink in Black, Magenta, Yellow, Cyan cartridges rather than Black + Multi.  Any ideas?
