My printer is flashing both ink levels as empty at the same time. Ive tried it all. New/existing cartridges too. Whenever i force a reset, the ink levels stop flashing, show the correct levels, prints diagnostics page, and then goes back to flashing ink levels as empty with an orange dot.

HI @PrinterErrors1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 3722 is experiencing a persistent issue with its ink level indicators and status lights. This can be frustrating, especially if you've already tried replacing cartridges and resetting the printer. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure Proper Installation: Make sure that both ink cartridges are installed correctly and securely in their respective slots. Remove and reinsert them to ensure a proper fit.
  • Clean Cartridges and Contacts: Gently clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using water or any cleaning solutions.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn Off the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug It Back In: Reconnect the printer to the power source and turn it back on. Wait for it to complete its startup sequence.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check for Updates: Visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your DeskJet 3722. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve issues with ink levels and printer errors.

4. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure Compatibility: Verify that you are using the correct cartridges for your DeskJet 3722. Using incorrect or non-HP cartridges can sometimes cause issues.
  • Try Different Cartridges: If you have access to different cartridges, try using them to see if the problem persists. This helps determine if the issue is with the cartridges themselves.

5. Clean the Printhead

  • Automatic Cleaning: Most HP printers have an automatic printhead cleaning feature. Access this through the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app.
  • Manual Cleaning: If the automatic cleaning does not work, you may need to clean the printhead manually. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on how to do this safely.

6. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect for Obstructions: Ensure there are no obstructions or foreign objects inside the printer that might be interfering with the cartridges or printhead.
  • Check the Ink Cartridge Latch: Sometimes, the latch that holds the cartridges in place can become loose or misaligned. Ensure it is securely in place.

7. Reset Ink Cartridge Counter

  • Reset Method: Sometimes, printers need a reset of the ink cartridge counter to recognize new cartridges. This is often done through a combination of button presses on the printer, but the exact method can vary. Refer to the printer’s manual for specific instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
