Hi @Atlpole
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems you're encountering an issue with your HP DeskJet 3755 printer where the ink cartridge light is flashing for both the yellow (cyan or color) and black cartridges. The fact that your printer works with the old, empty cartridge but doesn't accept the new one suggests that there might be a few issues at play, such as a faulty new cartridge, cartridge recognition issues, or a printer reset problem.
Let's walk through the steps to resolve this issue and get your printer back to working order.
Step 1: Check the Ink Cartridge for Damage or Packaging
First, ensure the new ink cartridge is not defective or improperly installed:
Check the Cartridge: Inspect the new ink cartridge for any visible damage or manufacturing defects. Make sure the protective tape or plastic film has been completely removed from the cartridge. Sometimes, new cartridges have a small piece of protective plastic that needs to be removed before installation.
Ensure Correct Cartridge Type: Double-check that you're using the correct ink cartridge for your printer model (HP 302 or 302XL for most HP DeskJet 3755 printers).
Step 2: Perform a Soft Reset of the Printer
Sometimes, the printer might just need a reset to "clear" out any errors or issues with recognizing new cartridges.
- Turn off the Printer using the power button.
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer.
- Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Plug the power cable back in and turn the printer on.
- Try re-inserting the new ink cartridge and check if the printer recognizes it.
Step 3: Reinstall the Ink Cartridges Correctly
Ensure that the new ink cartridges are installed properly:
- Open the printer's cartridge access door.
- Carefully remove both the black and color cartridges (if applicable).
- Reinstall the new cartridge(s) by pressing it gently into the slot until it clicks into place.
- Close the access door and check the printer's display panel. The flashing light should stop if the printer successfully detects the new cartridges.
Step 4: Clean the Contacts on the Cartridges and Printer
Sometimes, the printer won’t recognize the cartridge if there’s dust or debris on the contacts. Here's how to clean them:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the ink cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth (dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol) to gently clean the contacts on the cartridges (the copper-colored pins).
- Similarly, clean the cartridge slot inside the printer where the cartridges are inserted. Be careful not to touch any other parts of the printer.
- Let everything dry completely, then reinsert the cartridges and close the printer.
Step 5: Perform a Printer Self-Test or Print Quality Diagnostic
Once you’ve installed the new ink cartridges, it’s a good idea to print a test page to verify that the printer is working as expected:
- From the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings or Tools.
- Select Print Quality Report or Self-Test (varies depending on the model).
- If the printer produces a test page, it means the ink cartridges are working fine.
Step 6: Update Printer Firmware
If the printer still doesn’t accept the new ink cartridges, it could be a firmware issue. You can check if there’s an update for the printer’s firmware using the HP Smart app or the HP website.
- Open the HP Smart app or visit the HP Support Website.
- Check for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
- If there is a firmware update, follow the instructions to update the printer and then try reinstalling the cartridge.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
