In my Deskjet 5255 printer, I inserted a NEW HP Cartridge, and it says a non-HP circuitry has been detected and will not print. I've tried the suggestions provided for users with the same issue on this site and nothing has worked.  I've cleaned both the cartridge & circuits several times, check for a software update (it's up to date) and have tried 3 different new carts. Please help!  Thank you!!!

Hi @HeyLeash,

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

Try these steps:

Verify Cartridge Authenticity

Ensure that the cartridge you are using is an authentic HP cartridge. Genuine HP cartridges have security seals and HP logos.

Inspect the Cartridge and Printer

Inspect Cartridge for Damage:

  1. Check Contact Points: Ensure the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge are clean and undamaged.
  2. Inspect Cartridge Packaging: Verify the cartridge is new and free from physical damage.

Check Printer:

  1. Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Inspect Printer Cartridge Slot: Examine the slot for any debris or damage.

Clean Contacts

Clean Cartridge and Printer Contacts:

  1. Turn Off Printer: Unplug the printer.
  2. Remove Cartridge: Take out the cartridge.
  3. Use Lint-Free Cloth: Clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
  4. Dampen Cloth: Lightly dampen the cloth with distilled water if needed.

Clean Printer Cartridge Slot:

  1. Use Cloth: Wipe the contact points inside the printer's cartridge slot with a lint-free cloth.
  2. Ensure No Residue: Ensure there is no residue left on the contact points.

Reset the Printer

Perform a reset on your HP DeskJet 5255:

  1. Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Wait: Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
