I have bought two different HP printers (DeskJet 2700 and Envy 6055). In both cases, when I brought them up to a home at altitude above 6,000 ft, neither of them was able to get ink onto the page. I have brought both down to sea level since, and they still do not work. Is this a specific issue that I should have known about before purchasing? Is there a way to correct for this? The ink cartridges have not been used, but getting messages that they are low.

Hi @Sebastian58,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Altitude can potentially affect inkjet printers due to changes in air pressure, which may impact the functioning of the ink delivery system. However, it's not a common issue, and many printers are designed to work within a wide range of environmental conditions, including different altitudes. The fact that both printers are still not working after being brought back to sea level suggests that the altitude alone may not be the sole cause of the problem.
Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Check for Air Bubbles:
- Sometimes, air bubbles can form in the ink cartridges, preventing the ink from flowing properly. Make sure there are no air bubbles in the ink cartridges.
Clean Print Heads:
- Print heads can get clogged, especially if the printer has not been used for a while. Most printers have a utility or option to clean the print heads. Refer to your printer's manual or online support resources for instructions.
Check Cartridge Expiry:
- Verify that the ink cartridges are not expired. Even if they haven't been used, cartridges have an expiration date, and using expired cartridges may cause printing issues.
Replace Cartridges:
- If the cartridges are low on ink, replace them with new ones. Low ink levels might affect the print quality.
Update Firmware/Drivers:
- Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware and drivers installed. HP often release updates that can improve compatibility and performance.
Regarding the altitude issue, it's recommended to check the user manuals or technical specifications for your specific printer models. While altitude-related issues are uncommon, HP might provide guidelines or restrictions in the documentation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
