Hi all,
My last printer used HP62 cartridges. My new one uses HP64.
Externally, they're totally (as far as I can tell) identical.
What's the difference and are they interchangeable? If not, why?
MUCHLY THANKS!

Hi @byronw,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you want to know the differences between the HP 62 and HP 64 cartridges are both ink cartridges used in inkjet printers. While they may appear similar externally, there are some key differences between the two:
Compatibility: HP 62 and HP 64 cartridges are designed for different printer models. HP 62 cartridges are typically compatible with printers from the HP ENVY and HP OfficeJet series, while HP 64 cartridges are designed for use with specific printer models, such as the HP ENVY Photo series.
Ink Volume and Type: HP 62 and HP 64 cartridges may contain different amounts of ink and may use different types of ink formulations optimized for the specific printer models they are intended for. This means that even if they physically fit into each other's slots, they may not perform optimally or produce the best print quality.
Chip Configuration: Ink cartridges often come with electronic chips that communicate with the printer to provide information about ink levels and other diagnostics. These chips may have different configurations for HP 62 and HP 64 cartridges, making them incompatible with printers that are not designed to recognize them.
Print Quality and Performance: While physically similar, HP 62 and HP 64 cartridges may be optimized for different printing technologies or resolutions. Using an incompatible cartridge may result in subpar print quality or even damage to the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
