How do I disable the "Dynamic Security" on my HP printer (Office Jet Pro 6978) so that it will print with less expensive, non-HP cartridges

Here are some steps you can try to disable dynamic security or use non-HP cartridges, but be aware that these may not work with all printer models, and there could have been updates or changes to the printer firmware.

 

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Before attempting any changes, make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Go to the HP support website, search for your printer model, and download and install any available firmware updates. Sometimes, these updates can include changes to security features.

Disable Dynamic Security from the Printer's Control Panel:

  • Navigate to the printer's control panel and look for any options related to dynamic security or cartridge protection.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to disable these features if available.

Downgrade Firmware:

  • Some users have reported success by downgrading their printer's firmware to an earlier version that doesn't have dynamic security features. However, this approach can be risky, and HP may release updates to counteract this. You can usually find older firmware versions on the HP support website
