Do I need both color and black cartridges for HP Envy Photo 7155 to work?

I have HP ENVY Photo 7155.  Long story but now have 2 black cartridiges and no color cartridge.  Message:  "Cartridges appear to be missing..."  1)  Will printer not work with just one cartridge?    It seemed to have worked with just one, at least for a while.     2)  Can I put one of my black cartridges in the color cartridge space?

I'd like to help!

I understand you do not have a color cartridge and would like to use black instead.

You can install just a black cartridge and print in a single cartridge mode, but you cannot install the black cartridge in the color cartridge slot.

To print in single-cartridge mode, follow the below instructions -

The printer you own can work in single-cartridge mode, wherein the printer will be able to print with one cartridge in the printer. Which will help us identify if its a cartridge issue or a printhead issue

To try single-cartridge mode follow the below steps:

• insert only the black cartridge in the printer and try printing
