There are a few things to do and I think everything would be OK:
- Make sure the ink cartridges are installed and have adequate ink. [Do not remove the cartridges, or leave empty cartridges in the printer as this could allow the printhead to dry out.]
- Turn the printer off. Wait a few minutes for the printer to shut down completely, then unplug the printer, removing all cables.
- Store the printer in a place not subject to large temperature swings. Stay away from windows or heating vents. A closet may be a good place.
I have an Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer that is similar in design to your printer. For various reasons, I needed to store it and I did the above. After a year I got the printer out and expected I might have to run some cleaning cycles. I was pleasantly surprised that the first test page I printed (after a full year) was fine, and no cleaning was required beyond what the printer did automatically.
