HP Deskjet F4480 All-in-One Printer
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I have a drop shadow on printed text that will not go away. I have unplugged the printer from the outlet and unplugged the cord from the printer, removed both cartridges, waited 30 secs, plugged it back in, and reinstalled the cartridges. I've also cleaned the printer heads. Since I'm trying to print a PDF, I've tried printing directly from adobe instead of chrome, had the same problem. Tried changing print quality to fast draft, same problem. Also, the printer test page has no evidence of a drop shadow, which is especially perplexing. I'm at a loss. If there is anything else I can try, please advise. Thanks!

Hi @smartell28,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand you are facing a print quality issue.

To assist better-

1) Does the copy print out the same way?

2) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or device?

HP Deskjet F4480 All-in-One Printer driver for macOS 11 is not available from the HP website or Apple Software Update. I see you have tied troubleshooting and the issue persists, you could try replacing the ink cartridges if the issue occurs when copying as well.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hey Smartell,

When you click the print button, go to printer properties and click 'tray selection' and choose "Plain Paper, fast draft quality". Then under 'color' choose 'black and white ". Turn the color printing off. I have a Deskjet 3755 and had the same shadow problem where I almost threw this printer out the window. I wasted half a ream of paper trying to fix it, but worked like a charm! Hope it helps! Good luck!
