Duplex printing doesn’t work, namely, prints one sided.

@JohnBla, Thanks for getting back to us! I appreciate the update, and I understand how inconvenient it must be to switch to your Mac every time you need duplex printing. Let’s see if we can make this work on your iPad too!
Since duplex printing is working fine on your MacBook Air, it’s likely a settings issue or a limitation on the iPad’s printing options. Here are a few things to check:
Check AirPrint Settings on Your iPad
- Open the document you want to print and tap the Share icon.
- Select Print and choose your HP Envy 6520e printer.
- Look for a Double-Sided or Duplex toggle (it might be under "Options" or "Layout").
- If you don’t see the option, try selecting a different paper type or size—some settings may hide duplex printing.
Print Using the HP Smart App
- If you haven’t already, install the HP Smart app from the App Store.
- Open the app, select your printer, and go to Print Settings.
- Check if duplex printing is available from there—it sometimes offers more options than AirPrint.
Update Printer Firmware & iPadOS
- Ensure your printer has the latest firmware (you can update it from the HP Smart app or your Mac).
- Also, check if your iPad has the latest iPadOS version by going to Settings → General → Software Update.
If you still don’t see the duplex option, let me know! I’d be happy to explore more solutions for you.
Looking forward to your update! 😊

@JohnBla, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding duplex printing!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand that your HP Envy 6520e All-in-One Printer is not performing duplex (double-sided) printing and is only printing on one side. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
Check Print Settings
- Open the document you want to print and press Ctrl + P (Windows) / Command + P (Mac).
- Select your HP Envy 6520e printer.
- Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.
- Look for the Print on Both Sides or Two-Sided Printing option.
- Ensure that Automatic is selected instead of Manual or Off.
- Click OK and try printing a test document.
If the issue persists, please proceed to the next step.
Verify Duplex Printing is Enabled in Printer Settings
- Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Preferences → Printers & Scanners (Mac).
- Right-click on the HP Envy 6520e and select Printer Preferences (Windows) or Options & Supplies (Mac).
- Check for a setting related to Duplex Printing and ensure it is enabled.
- Apply the changes and test printing again.
Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
- Visit the official HP Software & Drivers page.
- Enter your printer model: HP Envy 6520e.
- Download and install the latest drivers and firmware.
- Restart your printer and computer after installation.
Check HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Open the HP Smart App on your computer or mobile device.
- Go to Printer Settings → Advanced Settings.
- Navigate to Print Settings and ensure Two-Sided Printing is enabled.
- Save the settings and try printing again.
Check Paper and Print Tray
- Ensure that the paper loaded in the tray is aligned correctly and supports duplex printing.
- Try using standard plain paper (some glossy or thick papers may not support duplex printing).
I hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello Zoey,
Thanks for your helpful reply. In the mean time I have found out that duplex printing is possible on my MacBook Air computer but not possible on my iPad. I use my iPad often so this is definitely a drawback as I must always log in to my mac for duplex printing.
Regards and thanks,
John

Hi Zoey,
Thanks for your tips. I’ve discovered on my iPad that duplex printing on the HP app doesn’t work as it is switched off and I cannot switch it on. On the other print option in the same menu I can select duplex printing and more such as side by side. So my problem is solved. I hope that my explanation is clear.
Again many thanks.
Regards,
John
