Sadly not the first time I am experiencing that - all of a sudden after having printet with no problems, printer is suddenly rejecting the installed genuine HP cartridges with plenty of (expensive) ink left!!

I understand that others have experienced the same with other printers, but I have yet to hear solutions to the problem.

If anyone have solutions or suggestions as to why this happens, I would very much like to hear.

Otherwise, the only solution I see is to forget about HP printers and move to another brand.

This time it is happening with my ENVY 4504 all in one printer.

Hi @Walentin,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your HP ENVY 4504 printer rejecting genuine HP cartridges. Cartridge rejection issues can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to try to resolve this problem.

  • Check for Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure that the cartridges you are using are compatible with your HP ENVY 4504 printer. Genuine HP cartridges should work, but sometimes, there may be model-specific or region-specific variations. Check the cartridge numbers and ensure they match the printer's requirements.
  • Reinstall the Cartridges: Remove the cartridges from the printer and then reinsert them firmly into their respective slots. Ensure that they are securely in place.
  • Clean the Contacts: Sometimes, dirt or residue can accumulate on the cartridge contacts or printer contacts, leading to poor connectivity. Carefully clean the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth or alcohol wipes.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Outdated printer firmware can sometimes cause cartridge recognition issues. Check if there's a firmware update available for your HP ENVY 4504 printer on the HP support website and install it if necessary.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a minute. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve cartridge recognition issues.
  • Check for Error Messages: If there's an error message on the printer's display, note it down. It might provide more specific information about the issue.
  • Test with Another Cartridge: If you have access to another set of genuine HP cartridges, try installing them to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridges themselves.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I appreciate the reply, but as I stated, the cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge.

I did finally opt for paid phone support where we tried all the suggestions you give in your reply, but to no avail, and in the end the support person chose to send me a new cartridge.

Having to pay for support, for a problem like this where the printer is rejecting the correct ink cartridges I do not think is a fair policy.

I will be getting a new ink cartridge, but may expect it to possibly again be rejected long before the ink is used up!
