HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a

hello & TIA

my printer was low on cyan ink. I printed for a week or so and would have to go to the printer and press BLACK INK ONLY.  It finally would not print w/o cyan replacement. I had some older (expired but when shaken i could hear liquid ink in the cartridge) cartridges and inserted Cyan only. I got an ERROR : Printer Failure -There is a problem with the printer or the ink cartridge. Turn your printer on and off if problem persists contact HP.

I have since replaced all cartridges with brand new, (not expired) turned on off many many times, ran trouble shooting app on HP smart and that told me nothing was wrong 😞

Here I am! anyone have any solutions or an 800 number for HP?

Thank you!

Hi @Ju_Jules21,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're dealing with a persistent issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer after replacing the ink cartridges. Here are a few steps and considerations that might help resolve the problem:

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that all cartridges are properly installed. Sometimes, a cartridge might not be fully seated or could have a protective tape that needs to be removed.
  • Clean Contacts: Sometimes, ink residue or dust can interfere with the electrical contacts on the cartridge or inside the printer. Turn off the printer, unplug it, and carefully clean the contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Reset the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is on. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn the printer back on. This can sometimes clear temporary errors.
  • Firmware Update: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for cartridge recognition issues. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or directly on the HP support website.
  • Factory Reset (if necessary): As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on the printer. This usually involves pressing specific buttons in a sequence (consult your printer manual or HP support website for instructions). Note that this will erase all custom settings, so proceed with caution.
