HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

I prematurely shut the paper bar and now get the message that one or both ink cartridges are out of alignment. Will not allow me to print.     Please advise if there is a  fix

Hi @TLC001,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out about your HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer. If you closed the paper output tray (the paper bar) prematurely and are now getting a message saying the ink cartridges are out of alignment, here's how to fix it:

Step-by-Step Fix:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Leave the printer powered on.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord back in and power it on.
  • This can sometimes clear temporary errors caused by mechanical interruptions.

2. Run the Cartridge Alignment Again

If the printer boots normally:

  • Go to the printer control panel.
  • Navigate to:
Settings > Tools > Align Printer
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Allow it to print the alignment page, then scan it when prompted.

If you already have an alignment page from earlier, do not reuse it. Always let the printer generate a new one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
