Last night my Envy 4500 threw up an error message for the 301XL colour cartridge saying incompatible cartridge fitted error. This is after I had been printing with this cartridge for 2 months (it is still 3/4s full of ink). I took it out and reseated it into the ink cartridge socket, but there was no change with the error message. Took the cartridge out, powered down the printer for 20 minutes, reseated the cartridge, turned on the printer, no change, Took it out, cleaned print contacts on cartridge and on the printer, no change. Took out a spare new colour cartridge and replaced it - bingo it worked; therefore the error is with the cartridge and not with the printer.
I need to return the cartridge to HP as it is faulty, proven by the diagnostics I have done but after 60 extremely frustrating minutes on their website trying to speak or webchat with a human being to see how to do this, it was impossible as there were no options to do so. I purchased the real HP cartridge from a webstore 3 months ago and cannot remember which one (not HP) so cannot return it to them. The cartridge worked well before but it is now faulty and the new one is working fine so the fault is with the cartridge, therefore under UK consumer law HP have to replace or repair it. It is in date for warranty until 22 Mar 2022 and is three quarters full of ink. How and who do I return this cartridge to in HP as it is clearly a quality control issue with the cartridge.
The HP website is the worst I have ever used for trying to get hold of a human - truly awful. All I want is a case number and a return address and the virtual agent is rubbish.
