Envy 7855 won't print from photo tray

HP Recommended
Envy 7855

My newly purchased Envy Photo 7855 won't print photos from the photo paper tray.  It will only print to the regular tray  8x10 paper.

I went into the control panel; selected the printer; chose "set preferences"; chose "paper/quality";  and changed the setting to   size:  4x6;    paper source: photo tray;     and paper type: hp photo paper.  I even took out the regular paper from the regular tray, but I get a message that I need to put in more paper.

Very frustrating (and not the first problem that I've had with this printer).

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance!!

@aehcolo

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that your HP Envy 7855 printer is not printing from photo tray. I will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂  Kudos to you on that score.:)

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

Did you reseated the photo tray properly?

If not, make sure the photo tray is seated correctly

  1. Make sure the printer is positioned on a flat surface.

  2. Push in the output tray extender.

  3. Pull out the input tray, but do not remove it.

  4. Remove the output tray.

  5. Make sure the photo tray is seated correctly, and that the photo tray guide tabs (grey) are sliding beneath the main tray guides (black) on both the left and right side of the input tray.

    Image: Photo tray properly functioning

Image: Tabs outside and inside guide rails

If they are not in the correct position, gently move the photo tray to align the tab gaps, and then gently press the tabs back into position.

The photo tray should move freely with no resistance.

  6. Reinstall the output tray, and then make sure the edges line up with the input tray.

  7. Try to print.

  8. If the error persists, try printing or copying a document with the output tray removed.

If the error only happens with the output tray installed, the output tray might need to be replaced.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

I continually have the same problem.  4x6 and 5x7.  Have tried all the suggestions.  Once got 4x6 to work but when had to change to 5x7 cannot get it working at all.

Hello

I had the same problem!! I finally just started changing different settings.

When I got to the paper size I thought the only options I had were what was showing. Then I saw where I could scroll down to different sizes and found 4 x 6 and 5x7 etc so clicked on 4x6 for my paper size HP photo paper  then 4x6 for photo size Viola!

I could also print wallet size and 3 1/2 by 5 on the 4x6 paper!!

Hope this helps certainly lowered my frustration!!!
