Envy 4520- after power outage, printer will only print in black. I have reinstalled the drivers, checked for updates, checked all print options on PC, and still no color printing. I can use the copy feature and it will print the copy in color- so it is not the actual printer- I have gone through every tutorial and even tried the virtual assistant (useless...)- cannot find a support number for HP. Please help- I am stuck! Thanks!

Hi @talay1,
You're very welcome — and thank you for the update! I'm so glad to hear you were able to get things working again, even if it took a marathon of phone calls. ICC profiles getting wiped out after a power outage is rare, but not impossible, especially if there was corruption or abrupt shutdown of key services.
Fingers crossed it stays stable now! But just in case, feel free to reach out anytime. Take care!

Hi @talay1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand you’re experiencing an issue where your HP ENVY 4520 only prints in black and white from your Windows 11 PC, despite copying in full color. We appreciate your detailed troubleshooting and are here to help.
Please try the following in order:
1. Manually Remove & Reinstall Printer Driver
- Unplug the USB cable (if used) or disconnect from Wi-Fi temporarily.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click your HP ENVY 4520, then click Remove.
- Press Win + R, type: printui /s /t2
This opens the old Windows Print Server dialog.
- Remove any HP ENVY 4520 drivers listed.
- Reboot your PC.
2. Download & Install the HP Full Feature Driver
Use HP’s official driver package — not just Windows Update drivers.
- Go to: HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Download the “HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.”
- Install it and reconnect the printer when prompted (via Wi-Fi or USB).
3. Check Print Settings
After reinstalling:
- Go to Settings > Printers & scanners > HP ENVY 4520 > Printing preferences.
- Under Color, ensure “Print in grayscale” is unchecked.
- Apply changes and try printing a test document in color.
Still No Color? Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor
Use HP’s diagnostic tool to auto-repair print settings:

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your help- After multiple hours on the phone with HP support and Adobe support- we figured out that the ICC profiles had been deleted somehow----(from the power outage???) Anyway, after much uninstalling and reinstalling, it seems to be working now- fingers crossed!
