I recently replaced my ink cartridge on my printer & it keeps popping up an error 11. The only trouble shooting the manual gives me is to remove the cartridge & try to re-install. I took all packing/clips off of the cartridge before installing. It does have a chip. The printer is less than a month old & this is the first cartridge replacement.

Hi @Brett2024,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting an error 11 on HP LaserJet printers typically indicates a cartridge issue. Since you've already tried reinstalling the cartridge, there could be a few other potential reasons for this error:
- Incorrect Cartridge Installation: Double-check to ensure that the cartridge is properly seated in its slot. Make sure it's securely installed and that there are no obstructions preventing it from making proper contact.
- Defective Cartridge: Even if it's a new cartridge, defects can occur. Try replacing the cartridge with another one to see if the issue persists. If you have an old cartridge that was working fine, you could try reinstalling it to see if the error goes away.
- Firmware Issue: Sometimes, a firmware update might be needed to recognize the new cartridge properly. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website and install them if necessary. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Dirty Contacts: Dust or debris on the cartridge contacts or inside the printer can interfere with communication. Carefully clean the contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer with a dry, lint-free cloth.
- Chip Misalignment: Ensure that the chip on the cartridge is properly aligned and not damaged. If it's misaligned or damaged, it may not be communicating correctly with the printer.
- Printer Hardware Issue: If none of the above solutions work, there may be a hardware issue with the printer itself.
