Unplugged printer and waited 60 secs but can't get past the error code on the screen to get the ink cartridges to move into a position where I can remove them to check

Hi @Akpardue,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your HP Envy 4502 showing error code 0xC4EB827F and not allowing access to the cartridges. Let’s go through a few checks.

Force Reset to Release the Carriage

  1. Turn the printer ON.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer while it is still ON.
  3. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait 60–90 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the printer.
  6. Turn the printer ON and immediately open the cartridge access door.

Note: This can sometimes free the carriage during startup.

Manually Move the Carriage (If Still Stuck)

  1. Turn the printer ON and disconnect the power cord while it is ON.
  2. Open the cartridge access door.
  3. Gently try to slide the carriage to the center.
  4. Check for any:
    • Paper scraps
    • Obstructions
    • Ink buildup
  5. Leave the carriage in the center and reconnect power.

CAUTION: Do not force movement if it feels locked.

Check for Internal Obstructions

  1. Use a flashlight to inspect inside the printer.
  2. Look around:
    • Left and right parking areas
    • Under the carriage path
  3. Remove any visible debris carefully.
