Hi @AKJon,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP printer. The "Indicated cartridges are not communicating with the printer" error message typically indicates a problem with the communication between the ink cartridges and the printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Verify Cartridge Compatibility: First, make sure that the new #64 ink cartridges are compatible with your specific printer model. Check your printer's manual or HP's website to ensure you have the correct cartridge for your printer.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: Sometimes, cartridges may not be seated properly. Remove the new cartridges and then reinstall them. Ensure they click into place securely.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the ink cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer. This can help to establish better communication.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the printer's firmware can sometimes resolve communication issues.
  • Reset the Printer: You mentioned that you've already tried unplugging the printer, which is a good start. Leave the printer unplugged for a few minutes (about 5-10 minutes) to ensure it completely resets. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Obstructions: Inspect the cartridge access area for any obstructions, debris, or stray bits of paper that might be interfering with the cartridges.
  • Test with Old Cartridges: If you have the old cartridges, try reinstalling them to see if the error message goes away. This can help determine if the issue is with the cartridges themselves.

Keep in mind that using third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause communication problems with HP printers. If you're not using genuine HP cartridges, consider switching to genuine HP ink cartridges to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
