Hi @Erzer,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the "Printer Failure - problem with printer or ink system" error on your HP Officejet Pro 8610 typically indicates a problem with the printhead or ink cartridges. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer and wall outlet.
- Turn on the printer if it doesn't automatically power on.
2. Check Ink Cartridges
- Open the printer's ink cartridge access door.
- Ensure that all ink cartridges are properly installed. If a cartridge is loose, remove and reinsert it.
- Check for any ink cartridge issues, such as damaged or empty cartridges, and replace them if needed.
3. Clean the Printhead
- Remove all ink cartridges.
- Lift the latch that holds the printhead in place, then gently remove the printhead.
- Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the printhead contacts.
- Dry the contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth and let the printhead air dry for about 10 minutes.
- Reinsert the printhead, secure the latch, and reinstall the ink cartridges.
4. Reset Printhead Alignment
Sometimes, the printer needs to recalibrate:
- Once everything is reinstalled, perform a printhead alignment using the printer's settings menu.
5. Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer
Make sure your printer has the latest firmware update. If you haven't updated the firmware recently:
- Visit the HP support website and search for the latest firmware for your HP Officejet Pro 8610.
- Install the firmware using your MacBook Pro.
6. Mac OS Sequoia Compatibility
Since you are using macOS Sequoia 15.0, ensure that the printer drivers are fully compatible with the operating system.
- Go to the Apple menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Remove the printer and reinstall it to refresh the driver.
- Check for any available updates for the HP Smart app or print drivers on your Mac.
7. Replace the Printhead (if necessary)
If the error persists, the printhead might be defective and require replacement.
