One of four cartridges fails even after replacement

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format printer is still showing an ink cartridge error message even after replacing the cartridge with a new one under warranty, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve this issue.

 

  • Verify Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridge is correctly installed in its designated slot. Sometimes, cartridges may not be fully seated or properly clicked into place, which can cause detection issues.
  • Clean Contacts: Turn off the printer and remove the problem cartridge. Check the contacts (gold-colored dots) on both the cartridge and the printer. Clean these contacts gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. This helps ensure proper electrical contact.
  • Reset Printer: Power cycle the printer by unplugging it from the power source for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the error message clears.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve cartridge detection issues.
  • Try Another New Cartridge: If possible, try another new cartridge. Very rarely, a new cartridge could also be defective.
  • Check Warranty Coverage: Since you mentioned the cartridge was replaced under warranty, ensure that the replacement cartridge is covered and compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, using non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can cause errors.
