If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format printer is still showing an ink cartridge error message even after replacing the cartridge with a new one under warranty, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve this issue.
- Verify Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridge is correctly installed in its designated slot. Sometimes, cartridges may not be fully seated or properly clicked into place, which can cause detection issues.
- Clean Contacts: Turn off the printer and remove the problem cartridge. Check the contacts (gold-colored dots) on both the cartridge and the printer. Clean these contacts gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. This helps ensure proper electrical contact.
- Reset Printer: Power cycle the printer by unplugging it from the power source for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the error message clears.
- Update Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve cartridge detection issues.
- Try Another New Cartridge: If possible, try another new cartridge. Very rarely, a new cartridge could also be defective.
- Check Warranty Coverage: Since you mentioned the cartridge was replaced under warranty, ensure that the replacement cartridge is covered and compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, using non-genuine or incompatible cartridges can cause errors.
