Hi @dabinxx,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding communication error on your HP ENVY Inspire 7958e All-in-One Printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Network Connection
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer. You can check network settings through the printer's control panel.
- Restart your router and reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Reset Printer's Network Settings
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings to restore the network defaults. This will allow you to set up the Wi-Fi connection again from scratch.
Update Printer Firmware
- Make sure your printer's firmware is updated. You can check and update the firmware through HP Smart App or visit HP Support for instructions on manual updates.
Clean Printheads
If you're able to establish a connection with the printer, use one of these methods:
- From the Printer Control Panel: Access the maintenance settings to initiate a printhead cleaning.
- Using the HP Smart App or HP Utility:
- Open the app and locate the tools or maintenance section.
- Run the printhead cleaning utility from there.
Troubleshoot Communication Error
- USB Cable Issues: If using USB, ensure the cable is properly connected and is functioning. Try a different cable if necessary.
- Firewall or Security Software: Make sure that your firewall or security software isn't blocking the printer's connection. You may need to configure exceptions or temporarily disable it to test connectivity.
- Driver Issues: Verify that the printer driver is up to date. You can reinstall the driver from the HP website to ensure it's properly configured.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the cord back in and turn on the printer.
I hope this helps.
