Hi @NeedtodoCards

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel to see a “Problem with printer or ink system” message, especially after trying to enter your serial number and not being able to move forward.

Thank you for already checking and confirming the printer details—it shows real persistence. Let’s go through some steps that can help bring your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 back to normal operation:

Power reset

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors) and reconnect to the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check ink cartridges

  • Remove all cartridges and inspect them for damage or ink buildup.
  • Wipe the electrical contacts gently with a lint‑free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Allow them to dry completely before reinserting.
  • Make sure each cartridge clicks firmly into place.

Clean the printhead

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to SetupPrinter MaintenanceClean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle and print a test page.
  • Repeat up to two more times if needed.

Update firmware

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows computer.
  • Select your printer → Printer SettingsDiagnose & Fix.
  • This tool checks for ink system errors and applies automatic corrections.

With these steps, the printer should be able to clear the error and resume normal printing. You’ve already shown great care in troubleshooting, and following this sequence will help isolate whether the issue is with the cartridges, printhead, or firmware.
