Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed.
Note: I did not just install a new cartridge. Was working last time I used it.  Tried taking both color and Black in and out, and cleaned connections. No luck.

Hi @Sjnovak

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with an error regarding the ink cartridge not being recognized properly, even though it was working previously. Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Cartridges for Damage:

  • Ensure that the cartridges are not damaged or leaking. Even if they were working previously, they might have been dislodged slightly or could have some dirt or ink residue on the contacts.
  • Inspect the ink cartridges for any signs of physical damage or dried ink on the contacts.

2. Re-seat the Cartridges:

  • Remove both cartridges (black and color).
  • Check the cartridge slots inside the printer for any dust, debris, or ink build-up. You can use a soft cloth or cotton swab to clean the areas around the slots where the cartridges connect.
  • Reinstall the cartridges properly by pressing them firmly into their respective slots until you hear them click into place. Be sure they’re seated properly and aligned.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Even if you’ve already cleaned the contacts, it's worth doing so again to ensure they are completely clean.
  • Use a soft lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the metal contacts on the ink cartridges and the printer’s cartridge bay.
  • Allow the cartridge and printer parts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

4. Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, resetting the printer can help clear temporary errors.
  • Turn the printer off, unplug it from the power source, and leave it unplugged for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the error persists.

5. Try Another Cartridge:

  • If you have a spare ink cartridge that you know works, try installing it to see if the issue is with the cartridge itself. This can help rule out whether the cartridge is faulty or if the issue lies with the printer.
  • If it prints fine with the new cartridge, you may need to replace the original one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
