Error Message:  Problem with the printer or ink system. 

This occurred after replacing an empty ink cartridge.  Assuming the new ink cartridge was faulty, I have tried a second new cartridge to no avail.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the printer or ink system error on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer.  The document here has more details, it is for a very similar printer and the steps apply to your Officejet Pro 8600 as well.

 

(In the future please be sure to mention the printer model as well as the exact wording of any error messages you have.  It may help to read this post .)
