Hi @suecysa

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It’s frustrating when a printer insists that new cartridges are low on ink. This issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 could be due to a cartridge recognition error, firmware issue, or clogged printheads. Here’s how to troubleshoot:

Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure you’re using genuine HP 952/952XL cartridges (or the correct regional equivalent).
  • Third-party or refilled cartridges may trigger supply errors.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges

  • Take out all cartridges, turn off the printer, and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Reinstall the cartridges one by one, ensuring they are properly seated.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Remove the cartridges and gently clean the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth.
  • Also clean the printhead contacts inside the printer.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware

  • HP regularly releases firmware updates that may resolve cartridge recognition issues.
  • Follow this guide for instructions on updating your printer firmware.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (For Windows Users)

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose cartridge-related problems.
  • Get it here.
