So there must have been another firmware update that has broken my printer 😞 I had this same issue last year. I have spend days searching for possible solutions for this new issue with no luck. I played with these non-hp cartridges that worked perfectly for hours, bought new ones...can't get them to work. Even did a semi-factory reset.  Finally broke down and bought very expensive HP cartridges only to have setup fail and say these new HP color cartridges are "damaged". I still have a "non-HP black cartridge installed. So now setup will not complete. I have no menu options. I am not sure what to do from here....except buy a new printer. (I can tell you if I have to buy a new one it will not be HP LOL)

This might be helpful for the 950 ink and this one for the 951 color ink

Non HP ink can be used on this list of HP printers.
The below type is unlikely to work.

Check the expiration date of the ink and verify it is genuine. To check if an HP ink cartridge is genuine, look for a security label on the cartridge, scan the QR code on the label with your phone, and then go to HP's website hp.com/go/ok to verify the serial number on the label; if the label appears tampered or the serial number doesn't validate, the cartridge is likely not genuine.

This is really great stuff, however I have an Officejet 8600 Premium. I need the firmware for it that can be copied to a USB stick to update the firmware, as the setup after I did a semi factory reset will now not complete due to the errors with the ink. Funny thing is, I bought all new HP ink from HP on amazon, installed them today and have the same issue as the non-hp ink cartridges were having. The setup never completes as it does not get past the "alignment" and claims my brand new HP cartridges are damaged. Uggg 😞

I'm following here since I am having the same "damaged cartridges" issue after installing brand new HP ink cartridges.  Arrrg, so frustrating!!

that does not work anymore.  The "firmware" is an application that goes to an HP site and obtains what HP allows you to install.  This is done in the attempt to prevent reverse engineering the firmware and stop firmware hacking.

The only sure way to replace firmware with any firmware you want is described here.
