HP firmware updated this week and now I'm getting the Ink Cartridge Problem error message and my printer will not work. I tried resetting, cleaning, all the stuff in the "support" document and nothing works. I'm on the HP Smart Print program so I don't have extra cartridges laying about and they won't send new ones since these should be working.
Can I roll back the firmware update to see if that fixes the problem? If so, how is that accomplished?
Thank you.

@CHOP-ID, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Firmware update will not cause any damage to the ink cartridges. Which of the ink cartridge is indicated in the error?
Insert one ink cartridge at a time to identify the defective ink cartridge.
Also, perform the steps mentioned in this document - HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge

Here's a link to a page that got me back up and running on my MFP 281 after the firmware update: [content removed]
You'll have to get into setup on the printer and allow downgrades and probably do a reset to defaults.

I have a HP Color LaserJet MFP M281cdw and HP recently sent a firmware update Oct 2020 that disabled my aftermarket ink cartridges. Everything was working fine and the cartridge's where 75% full, Then the firmware update came and I get the supply problem error stating the indicated supplies are not communicating properly. I have tried the download that HP is deleting from other threads but it did not work. I assume they have disabled that as well.
I am beyond disappointed that HP would do something that limits my choice. I will not be buying HP products anymore and will not spend the $500 for 4 new cartridges on a printer that only cost $250 new. I hope to encourage many others to steer clear of HP products.
If you have any sense of decency please respond and post a solution to this horrible act.

I'm so disappointed with HP and have not got any money to buy HPs own cartridges that is recommended to me, which would also be beyond stupidness in regards to environment issues.
