@JenEnull, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with a persistent error like that. The flashing "E" on your HP printer typically indicates an error state that could be related to several issues. Here are some steps you can try to resolve it:
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the cartridge access door and remove both the black and tri-color cartridges.
- Reinstall them, ensuring they click into place securely.
- Close the cartridge access door and turn the printer back on.
Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridges and use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.
Hard Reset:
- Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on.
Check for Paper Jam:
- Even if you don't see a paper jam, check all accessible areas of the printer for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be causing the issue.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP support website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

First I checked for paper jam then I replaced the ink cartridges with brand new ones then when that didn't work I unplugged it for 10 minutes and plugged it back in when that didn't work I tried to reset it by holding the power button when that didn't work I Googled Solutions and they all came up with what I had already tried now you're telling me to do what I've already tried it doesn't work yes I'm frustrated no that did not solve my problem

@JenEnull, Thank you for your detailed follow-up, and I truly appreciate your patience through all of this.
You're absolutely right — you've already gone through all the standard steps, and I understand how frustrating it must be to still be facing the flashing “E” error after trying everything.
At this point, since the issue persists even after a factory reset and you've confirmed there are no paper jams or cartridge issues, this could indicate a more specific hardware fault or a system-level error that isn’t recoverable through basic troubleshooting.
Next steps:
Model-Specific Error Diagnosis: The flashing "E" often appears with other blinking lights (like the ink level icons or paper icon). Could you let me know if any other lights are flashing alongside the "E"? This combination can help narrow down the exact error code.
And, To better assist you, could you please share your printer's serial number or product number with us via private message?
