Hey,
I just started up with the Instant Ink Plan with a free trial period. During the install process, I just clicked a plan without really having an idea how much I would need. At the current print rate, this plan will not be sufficient. What happens when I upgrade the plan during the free trial period? Is changing for free? Will I be charged? Will the free trial period end?

@J9012, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Depending on your printing needs, you might need to increase or decrease your HP Instant Ink monthly plan. You can easily make changes to your monthly plan through your HP Instant Ink account.
For more info, refer to - Change Your HP Instant Ink Plan
If you would like to upgrade, you will be charged as per the plan. You will no longer be in the free plan. To know how Instant Ink works, click here.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

How can it be that I will be charged?! It is a 6 Month free trial period! If I would have chosen the most demanding plan in the beginning, I could print 1000+ pages without paying. I tried to be reasonable and chose 300 pages. Changing plans during a free trial period should be free in order to find the right plan according to my needs. Can you explain me why HP is using an unfair system? Because this way the free trial period is useless and only a way for HP to charge at extreme rates (1Euro for 10 surplus pages???)

If you have a 6-month trial period, then yes, you will not be charged when you upgrade the plan. I assumed you are on the 15-page free plan.
So, not to worry, go ahead and upgrade the plan.
keep me posted for any other assistance.
