Another frustrated owner of an HP product! I want to be able to install a generic ink cartridge. BUT, like others, I installed some generic ink cartridges and received an error message stating that a “non-HP chip detected”. I own the machine, not HP. I should be able to install any ink cartridge I choose. The arrogance!
This is the last time I purchase an HP product based on this tactic/policy. In fact, I’m going to go shop for a new printer.

Hi @DarthNader9,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
These cartridges are manufactured by companies other than HP and are designed to function with HP printers.
However, it's important to note that not all third-party cartridges are created equal, and some may not meet the same quality standards as genuine HP cartridges.
Using a non-HP cartridge may also void the printer's warranty. It's important to check with the printer manufacturer or consult the printer manual before using a generic ink cartridge. Additionally, it's a good idea to purchase generic cartridges from a reputable supplier to ensure they meet the quality standards required for reliable and consistent printing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
