My genuine yellow cartridge is getting rejected

When a genuine HP yellow cartridge is rejected, it usually points to one of these issues:

Common Causes: 

  • Check if the orange tape covering the electrical contacts or the ink nozzle is still attached.
  • Ink or dust on the gold contacts can prevent recognition.
  • HP printers verify cartridges via firmware. If the printer isn’t updated, it may reject even genuine cartridges.
  • If your printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink or HP+, only enrolled cartridges will work.

 

Fix Steps

  1. Power Reset
    • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then restart.
       
  2. Clean Contacts
    • Remove the cartridge and gently clean the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
       
  3. Update Firmware
    • Use HP app → Printer Settings → Printer Update.
       
  4. Reinstall Cartridge
    • Insert firmly until it clicks.
       
  5. Check HP Account Status
    • If enrolled in HP+, ensure the cartridge is part of your subscription.

 

If Still Rejected

  • Try another genuine cartridge to rule out a defective one.
  • If the issue persists, contact HP Support for a replacement under warranty.
