Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On my Eny Photo 7855 I installed both the color and black ink cartridges that HP sent me. I did so because my current cartridges were giving me a error message when printing full sheet pictures. It would print half the image and then stop stating it was having cartridge communication errors. If I print the image on 4x6 paper, it prints fine. These are brand-new cartridges, and they are still doing the same. I cleaned the copper contacts on both the cartridges and also the contacts in the ink trays inside the printer. Still does it. Did four reboots and still same issue.

Any ideas or help?

Hi @Quinnow1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've tried several troubleshooting steps already. Here are a few more steps you can try to resolve the cartridge communication error on your HP Envy Photo 7855.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues with cartridges.
  • You can check for updates via the printer's control panel or by visiting the HP Support website.

Reset the Printer:

  • Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
  • Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the outlet and the printer.
  • Turn on the printer if it does not turn on automatically.

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Verify that the cartridges you received are the correct ones for your printer model. Using incorrect cartridges can cause communication errors.

Inspect the Cartridges and Cartridge Slots:

  • Ensure there is no debris or ink residue on the contacts.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any visible damage.
  • Make sure the cartridges are properly seated in their slots.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Plug the power cord back into the outlet and the printer.
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges.

Run a Printer Diagnostic Tool:

  • HP provides a diagnostic tool that can help identify and resolve issues. Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows or use the HP Smart app for other operating systems.

Check for Printer Settings:

  • Sometimes, specific print settings can cause issues. Try resetting the printer settings to default or changing the paper size setting to see if that resolves the issue.

Try Another Set of Cartridges:

  • If possible, try using another set of cartridges to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridges or the printer itself.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
