Hi @LouCC,

Please find the next steps below.

6. Try Another Cartridge

  1. Use a Different Cartridge: If possible, try using another new yellow cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge or the printer.

7. Align the Printhead

  1. Printer Control Panel: Use the printer control panel to access the maintenance menu.
  2. Align Printhead: Select the option to align the printhead. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8710 All-In-One printer indicating an empty yellow cartridge. If the problem persists, contact the phone support for further assistance.

Hi @LouCC,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

  • Did you try cleaning the ink cartridges?
  • Did you try printing an HP print quality report?

It looks like a hardware issue. For now, try these steps

If your HP Officejet Pro 8710 All-In-One printer is giving you an error message to replace an empty yellow cartridge even though it is new, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check the Cartridge Installation

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the Printer: Open the printer cover to access the cartridges.
  3. Remove and Reinsert the Cartridge: Remove the yellow cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place securely.
  4. Close the Printer: Close the printer cover and turn the printer back on.

2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove the Cartridge: Remove the yellow cartridge from the printer.
  3. Clean the Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
  4. Dry the Contacts: Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.
  5. Reinsert the Cartridge: Reinsert the yellow cartridge, ensuring it is properly seated.

3. Reset the Printer

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait: Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug In and Turn On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

4. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit HP Support Website: Go to the HP Support website.
  2. Search for Your Printer Model: Enter "HP Officejet Pro 8710" and navigate to the drivers and firmware section.
  3. Download and Install Updates: If a firmware update is available, download and install it following the on-screen instructions.

5. Check for Software Updates

  1. HP Smart App: If you are using the HP Smart app, make sure it is updated to the latest version.
  2. HP Printer Assistant: If you are using HP Printer Assistant, check for any software updates.

Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.
